The concept of “self – care” is a broad topic and it is open to numerous interpretations involving a variety of philosophies and disciplines. However, I believe that as a complete subject it should be as inclusive as possible.
This self – care course can be described according to the results we are aiming for, which is: mobility and stability working in unison to provide freedom and harmony of movement.
In this 2 day workshop, our focus will be directed towards the musculoskeletal system. The term “bio-tensegrity” refers to the inate, tension and integrity that manifests within our musculoskeletal structures / tissues.
The movement exercises are designed to direct our attention specifically to contacting, engaging and moving the bones, joints and soft tissues (i.e.) myofascia, tendons and ligaments, in patterns of motion that they are designed to perform. Together, these tissues provide our body with the necessary tension and mobility that humans require for adequate movement.
The shoulder and pelvic girdles are prime examples of structures where most humans struggle with finding a balance. These regions of the body also have a direct relationship (+ve and –ve) with the diaphragms associated with them: Thoracic; Respiratory; Pelvic floor.
Included as a necessary part of this workshop will be the elements of breathe awareness and some restorative and restful poses / positioning. By explaining the physiology of relaxation, and learning some poses, we will better understand the value of incorporating them into a self-care program.
**Pre-Requisite is experience with any form of movement or exercise regimen i.e. Hatha Yoga, Pilates, Weight Training
